So I have never used actions before in PS. I have always just adjusted things the way I see fit. I have to tell ya....I think I like actions! It's so fast and then I can adjust the actions the way I like. Best of both worlds. BTW I never sharpen my images for the web like I should. I just upload. Maybe one day I will do it. :)

What To Wear For Your Spring Pictures by Guest Blogger "Hate it! Love it! Blog it!"

Okay so I am so excited to have my first guest blogger! It's my very own best friend from Hate it! Love it! Blog it! She is so talented at putting outfits together. If you are like me running around with your head cut off like a chicken trying to find the perfect outfits for your family this spring for pictures or even Easter outfits (because there will be pictures taken that day too) check out her advise before heading out to the store.

Family pictures are all about coordinating without being TOO matchy matchy. It used to be common to stick to a color scheme like grey and blue OR white and khaki. Then everyone in the family would wear those colors with different patterns and sometimes have the kids wear the exact same shirts. Times have changed!!!! Embrace color! If you notice the clothes I chose are ALL solids with the exception of one shirt. By keeping patterns simple you can really play around with color. The colors schemes in my design board are following the current trends this season. These are constantly changing….pretty much every few months. But THIS Spring tangerine and salmon colors are really in for the ladies. Some other fun colors to play with are turquoise and mustard yellow. And for boys jean shirts are coming back! Be careful to match them with a nice pair of khakis rather than a similar color pair of jeans :)

Now for the breakdown of where I found all of these lovely outfits:

Dad- Gap shirt, Gap vintage khakis, Abercrombie and Fitch leather flip flops

Mom (Option #1) Banana Republic cardigan, Gap wide leg jeans, nautical necklace from Urban Outfitters, just like honey ModCloth pumps

2 yr old girl- Gap purple shrug, Old Navy ruffle neck tank, Old Navy ruffle tiered skirt, Old Navy metallic silver sandals

Some trends to watch for THIS Spring: bell bottom pants, long cardigans, long chain necklaces, stripes, RUFFLES, and pockets (LOVE the pockets!!!!) Have fun mixing things up for your family pictures. I chose this picture for the week mainly because I haven't had a great deal of time to get the camera out. I have been nursing sick children back to health since last Friday night. It's obviously some kind of virus. High fever, cough, and runny nose. It's lasting between 3-5 days per kid. Somehow they have managed to each get it at the tail end of one another. That being said I hope my life goes back to being somewhat normal by Saturday. Saturday will be day 9 of sickies and me and the mister and going out!

Here is a picture of my new camera. It's a Nikon D200. My dream as of now is the D700 but this is definitely a step in the right direction. So far I love it. I am still trying to figure out where everything is on the camera because it's a lot different from my D80.

I have decided to make an effort to participate in the MCP Project 52. This will be a good challenge for myself to think differently each week and get inspired. Hopefully this new found creativity will start to flow into my other work. 2011 will be a year for optimism. Every year I kind of give myself a motto. I know it sounds really corny but hey it's me and I am kinda corny. This years motto is "Don't settle for Mediocrity."

This weeks challenge is "something around the house." An apple is what I found.

If fruit would grow this color it would be awesome! No I'm not on drugs. Haha. Really, I'm not. I really just love bright colors. For instance there is no way Cheetos would taste as good if they weren't bright orange. Think about it. It's totally true. Which one do you want to eat? You know my vote is for #2.

Okay if you are like me and have been uploading your pictures to photobucket or flicr to make your pictures larger for your blog you are going to love this! Blogger now has the capability of doing it for you! Amazing i know. I came across this info on photographer Jessica Kettle's formspring page here. If you don't know who she is well....she is amazing and a true inspiration. You should totally check out her work.

Here is what you do to change the settings on your blogger>>>>>>>>>>>

In blogger, go to SETTINGS, BASIC, and scroll down to GLOBAL SETTINGS. The first one is SELECT POST EDITOR, and you just have to check UPDATED EDITOR. There is also a link that walks you through the updates!

So have you ever wondered how people enlarge their photos on their blog bigger than what blogger offers? Well today I am going to share with you how I do it.

Step #1

You need to upload your photos to a site like photobucket or flickr. I use photobucket so this is where I will be giving guided instructions from.

Step #2

Once you see your photo in your album you will want to move your mouse to the upper right hand corner of your photo and click on resize (Large 640x480) It will ask you if you are sure you want to do this and you will click yes.

Step #3

Highlight the HTML code to the left of your picture and then copy and paste it into the text in your blog post.

And that's it! Pretty simple.

Here is what goes down when we plan family pictures.

*To start - The kids go crazy!

*No one wants to get their clothes on or they don't want to wear what I have layed out for them (including Colby)

*Madison wants to do "her poses" and C.J. does everything in his power to run away and not look at the camera.

*All a while I am trying to get the baby to stop gnawing on my face and suck in my gut at the same time. (three babies will do that to ya.)

*By the end I just want to scream and you think to yourself "Was this worth it?!"

Finally you see your pictures and you know in your heart that all the CRAZY you experienced was totally worth it to get this

Little miss Brielle was not feeling our photo session the other day. I told her mom "I bet as soon as you put her in the car she will sleep the rest of the day. And that's just what she did. Thankfully we were able to get a couple cute shots.

*Tip* The best time to take newborn photos is anywhere from a few days old up to 2 week. That way they are still in that sleepy phase and will let you do just about anything with them. Also, I like to keep a small space heater near by to keep the baby warm and they like the humming sound.

This is my cute little nephew Ethan. If you look close enough you can see him drooling. I'm loving it.

*Tip*

When taking photos indoors look for places that have lots of natural light. These photos where taken in a front room of my sister in laws house around 1 p.m. Depending on which direction your windows face will determine what time you will want to take pictures. You want the light on your subjects face to look natural. If you see harsh shadows this means there is too much light coming in and you will want to wait until the sun moves.

2010. Seriously can you believe that it is actually 2010! Weren't we all worried about Y2K like yesterday? Haha. Just kidding. But seriously people, my kids will ask what year I was born and when I say 1981 they will think "Wow! She was born in the 1900's." Anyway, my goal for the year is to live, love, and LEARN! I want to learn so much more about photography. Hopefully this year I will get the chance to do that. I also want to help others who want to learn so I will be giving photography tips in my post this year to those who might be interested. I don't consider myself to be a "professional" or anything but I don't feel like I am an amateur either. Just somewhere in between. : )

Tip #1 Take photos of what you are passionate about! When you do everything about taking the pictures is more enjoyable. Right now I am really passionate about my family and our new addition.

Years ago I took a photography class at UVSC and some of the assignments I did were totally lame because I was taking pictures of fruit baskets and other stupid stuff. Not that there aren't beautiful pictures out there of fruit. It's just not what I'm passionate about.

I love babies and children! I love their tiny features. I could take pictures of my kids all day long. (if only THEY would let me.)

My friend Amanda has just started a tee-shirt company called Half-Tee's. I am so excited for her and for her product. These shirts are perfect for layering under dresses and so many other things. Just think about how hot it gets in the summer and how nice it's going to be to not have the extra bulk under your shirt or dress! Not to mention how everything rolls up my stomach right now from being pregnant. Okay so you can tell I'm already sold! Seriously though, the photo shoot was so much fun. So I took the kids down to the beach ot try and get some pictures of them. To say the least It Was EXREMELY Hard! C.J. would not look at me and Madison was crying saying "It's so sticky! why does this skirt keep sticking to me!" That's humidity for ya. Not to mention the real beach bums who were out that day trying to give me "photo tips." Yeah it was interesting.

There were so many things that I loved about this wedding. First off, I am not into wedding photography but it was fun to step out side my comfort zone to take a couple pictures for fun. When you dream about redoing your wedding (which most girls do after so many years) this would be it. Minus the mosquitoes at the reception. I loved her dress. I loved her hair. I loved the location. I am so happy for Karah and Jason! They deserve all the happiness in the world.
